Dr. Tariot explains how Alzheimer's disease is diagnosed.

Dr. Tariot:
The best way to make a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease is to have a proper medical evaluation where you review what the symptoms are, how they started, how they changed over time, memory thinking, daily functioning, emotions and temperament, physical exam, neurological exam, some memory and thinking tests that sometimes can be brief, a half hour or so, sometimes need to be several hours to really figure it out.

We always do a battery of blood tests, and we always do at least one brain imaging procedure, sometimes more than one. That process takes a few hours spread over a few days, and at the end of that, you generally have a specific answer.
