Does Gestational Age Affect The Outcome Of Orthopaedic Trauma? - Dr. Cannada (VIDEO)

Dr. Cannada shares if the gestational age at the time of orthopaedic trauma affects the outcome of the pregnancy.

Dr. Cannada:
The majority of trauma, although I did have one-quarter of trauma patients under 23 weeks the difference is before 20 weeks the fetus is inside the pelvis. At 20 weeks the fetus is out of the pelvis. So that’s when you start to see, that’s when women start to show that they are pregnant.

So there could be a difference we could, you know, we study trauma, our patients, we didn’t find a significant difference with gestational age and outcome.

Dr. Lisa K. Cannada, M.D., is an orthopaedic trauma surgeon with an extensive background in teaching and orthopaedic trauma surgery. She completed her medical school at University of Maryland in 1996 and entered her residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland. She came back to Maryland for her trauma fellowship at the RA Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Maryland.

She worked at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia for three years before accepting a position at the University of Texas-Southwestern. She truly loves her career as an orthopaedic trauma surgeon and is a strong advocate for Women in Orthopaedic Surgery.
