VIDEO: Dr. Darney - Obstetrician/Gynecologist, What Should A Woman Know About Her Doctor?

August 12, 2009 - 4:25pm 695 reads 0 comments

Dr. Darney introduces himself and shares what a woman should know about her obstetrician/gynecologist (OBGYN).

Dr. Darney:
I am Philip Darney. I am professor and Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at San Francisco General Hospital, a teaching hospital of the University of California, San Francisco.

I think women need to know if the practice of their obstetrician, obstetricians is what will fit in with the way they would like to have a baby. That is, what are the cesearean section policies of the obstetrician, does the obstetrician collaborate with midwives, if they are interested in midwifery delivery?

And then of course women need to know to be reassured that if problems develop during their pregnancy, which is unusual, of course, but problems do occur, that the obstetrician will either be available immediately to them or be able to refer them to a place to practitioners or a hospital where complex, complications of pregnancy can be cared for.
