VIDEO: Dr. Ring - Menopause, What Misconception Do Women Have?

June 5, 2009 - 3:13pm 369 reads 0 comments

Dr. Ring shares a common misconception women have regarding menopause.

Dr. Ring:
I think one of the misconceptions that women have about menopause is that you hit around age 50 and all of a sudden your hormones shut off, and that’s not the case.

We know that hormone production from the ovaries our primary source, starts to decline even in your 20s or 30s. So many women will start to have some symptoms, whether it’s increased PMS, hot flashes, night sweats, even when you are in your 30s or 40s and there can be some benefit to starting to help balance out your hormones at an earlier age.

So the idea that menopause is a single, one-time event and then all of a sudden you are in menopause, that’s a misconception. It’s something that women can benefit from treating for years before and for years beyond.
