Dr. Sorof shares how a woman’s heart can be affected by scar tissue.

Dr. Sorof:
Scar tissue is of concern in the heart because it’s formed mostly by a lack of oxygen that produces dead tissue or a scar, such as a scar you would get on your body. It also could be a nidus or a site that bad rhythms can start. People often, who have a weak heart muscle or have had heart attacks, have areas of the heart that are not functioning well and from those areas electricity can be exerted and cause somebody to go into a lethal or problematic arrhythmia.

If somebody has had heart attacks and they have low heart pumping function they definitely need to see a cardiologist and have follow up because those patients should be on medicines and also they may need something called a defibrillator which could help their heart stay in rhythm and that can save somebody’s life.
