The mission of Gold’s Gym is “To Help People Achieve Their Individual Potential Through Fitness.” The first Gold’s Gym originated in Venice Beach, California back in 1965. Joe Gold called his club, The Mecca.

According to Laura Newman of the MWW Group, the agency representing Gold’s Gym, “Gold's Gym is the largest global co-ed gym in the world spanning more than 40 states across the U.S. and over 30 countries around the globe. We have over 700-plus gyms throughout the world.”

Their membership numbers are impressive, citing more than 3 million members, spanning countries and continents from the United States to Japan, Costa Rica and the Netherlands. Newman said that the average annual membership price is $500.

Newman said, “Nearly all Gold's locations are independently operated by franchisees so membership rates and amenities vary at each location." She also said that many of the locations run membership specials and discounts and encourages those interested to contact their closest location. Newman points prospective members in the direction of the Gold’s Gym club website locator. http://www.goldsgym.com/locator/

Newman said that amenities included in the membership vary from franchise to franchise. “Some of our most common amenities available are: Cardio-Cinema, Group Exercise Classes, Personal Training Services, Access to a Swimming Pool, Child Care, Tanning, and a free Personal Training assessment when you sign up for the membership.” Prices for additional services such as nutritional counseling and personal training will depend on the individual franchise and market.

Newman said that each individual gym also has their own procedures for membership cancellations although, “no cancellations will be accepted via the website or by email and members will need to contact their individual gym for information on how to cancel, or refer to the membership agreement for additional instructions.”

The Gold’s Gym Story cites an energetic, supportive and goal-oriented environment. “Today more than ever, people are looking for strength. Whether it's the strength to be a better parent, the strength to overcome diabetes or the strength to be a better athlete - strength comes in many forms. At Gold's Gym, we recognize that everyone has their own strength - our job for over 45 years has been to help them find it.”

I've heard so many great things about Gold's Gym! I almost DID join, but ended up somewhere else because of the slightly cheaper cost, but all of my friends who have GG membership love it :)
