Yep. You read right. November 4 will be the first ever “Sex Toy Day.” The folks behind this proclamation are spreading the word about the benefits of sex toys as well as their widespread use and acceptance.

Dr. Sandor Gardos is the founder of MyPleasure.com, a primary sponsor of Sex Toy Day. “Sex toys have been proven to lead to better health and positive sexual function, and they are safe, fun, effective and affordable.”

The popularity of sex toys seems to be increasing. According to two recent national surveys from Indiana University, published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, 53 percent of women and nearly half of all men report having used a vibrator. The study also revealed that people who use vibrators have good sexual health behaviors.

According to sex educator Sarah Sloane, "vibrator users of both genders were found to be more likely to perform sexual self-care – having regular pap smears, performing self exams, and taking other preventative measures to ensure their physical and sexual health. Additionally, both women and men who reported using vibrators rank themselves higher in measures of sexual well being and satisfaction, including arousal, lubrication, erectile function, and overall sexual pleasure."

Many sex educators recommend sex toys as a way to spice up your sex life. In fact that is one of the most common questions asked by those in long term relationships. And even if you are not in a relationship, sex toys can enhance your sex life whether you have a partner or not. Many women have a hard time achieving orgasm, but they find sex toys can be a sure thing and become their new best friend.

Today, sex toys can be found quite easily on store shelves or through Internet retailers. And the surveys show that sexual constraints tend to loosen in succeeding generations. Now, it seems women who do not use a sex toy are the minority; whereas only a generation ago the reverse was true.

So back to Sex Toy Day. Since sex toys primary purpose on this planet are to facilitate human sexual pleasure, and almost half of people have used one, it makes sense to make a day out of it. And it seems the sex toy folks want everyone to turn into sex toy fans. They’re giving away 1,000 free vibrators to the first 1,000 people at SexToyDay.com on November 4, 2010.
