Dr. Mao, as he prefers to be called, is a 38th generation doctor of Chinese medicine, a Licensed Acupuncturist, a Diplomat of Chinese Herbology, and a Diplomat in Anti-Aging.
For over 20 years, Dr. Mao has been in general practice at Los Angeles, California's Tao of Wellness, an acclaimed center for nutrition, Chinese medicine, and acupuncture, with special interest in immune, hormonal, and aging-related conditions. He is also the founder and Chancellor of the Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Los Angeles that is considered the premiere school for Chinese medicine outside of China.
A brush with near-death from an accident as a child left him determined to pursue health and healing. He was taught tai chi and qigong early on to help him rehabilitate and began his medical training with his father, a renowned physician of Chinese medicine and Taoist master. From this youthful beginning, Dr. Mao continued his training in schools of Chinese medicine in the United States and China. He went on to receive two doctorate degrees and wrote his Ph.D. dissertation on nutrition, as well as carried out a 20-year study of centenarians in China.
In addition to his work in his practice, Dr. Mao is a member of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, the AOM ALLIANCE, American Society of Acupuncturist, the American Association of Acupuncturist & Oriental Medicine and National Certification Commission for Acupuncturist & Oriental Medicine Diplomat in Chinese Herbology.
Dr. Mao is also an author of the best-selling book, Secrets of Longevity. Merging the ancient wisdom of Eastern medicine with the modern advances of Western medicine, Dr. Mao has spent years studying centenarians in China and combing through archives of Taoist longevity classics. He is also a Tai Chi master.
Dr. Mao has lectured internationally on various topics including women's health, longevity medicine, diet and nutrition, herbal therapy, stress management, meditation, lifestyle enhancement, integrative cancer care, tai chi, qigong, Chinese yoga, spirituality and conducts longevity retreats throughout the world.
