Darkina recalls how the relationships with her family members was altered by her HIV diagnosis.
Darkina:
The relationship with my family, as far as my HIV, my recovery, my family today love that I am back. I just celebrated my one year and it was only standing room. They were there and the family was everywhere in the building and I am very thankful. I am very grateful. They are all supportive. Any time I pick the phone and call, everyone is willing to listen to my education on HIV, willing to talk about HIV whenever I want to talk about HIV, whenever I am around.
There’s no embarrassing times. A lot of them sometimes say they can’t believe that I am just so open about it and I am very grateful. I love my family. My family understands that I am not who I used to be. I am a new person that loves myself and their problems is their problems today, not mine.
