Dr. Tariot explains what makes Banner Alzheimer's Institute a unique place.
The Banner Alzheimer’s Institute is a not-for-profit institution in the shadow of Banner Health, a not-for-profit healthcare corporation which made an unbelievable commitment to trying to make a difference in people’s lives in a new and different way through improved care.
We have a dual mission – we want to find a way to end Alzheimer’s disease as quickly as we can, hopefully without losing another generation, and we want to do it in such a way that we’re also providing outstanding care to people along the way. So the model is care and study.
On the care side, we have a memory disorders consultation clinic with multiple disciplines working together to try to provide the exact diagnosis, the exact treatment plan, and then we also have a family and community services team with Masters- or Doctoral-prepared nurses and social workers to help come up with a customized disease management plan, and then the bookend to that is a very large treatment research program.
Right now we’re focusing on treatments, but we are darn close to doing prevention studies as well.
