Andrea explains how the support groups at Banner North Colorado Medical Center helped her eat right and adjust to the dramatic change after her bariatric procedure.
Andrea:
I’ve had a lot of success at the NCMC Bariatric Surgery Center and one of the benefits for me has been the support groups; they are run together by the nutritionist and the psychologist and it’s been educational for me in two areas – the nutritionist talking about strategies and ideas in how to implement the changes in your diet on a regular basis and the education through the psychologist was especially beneficial to me.
It was a big a-ha to me because I work with young children with behavioral techniques and I realized at one point that the behavioral techniques were pretty much the same. Not that I treat myself as a child, but that certain things such as envisioning what you want, what you want to be rather than what you don’t want to do, and so the education in those areas and the support from the leaders of the groups and the other patients there was very beneficial to me.
