Last night/early this morning I had sex with my boyfriend of 3 years. I'd spent the last eight months overseas on a university exchange program and this was the first time that we hooked up since I've been back.

I take BC pills (brand name is Gynera) and I always take them on time in the morning. it's a combination pill that has 21 in a pack. I normally take the 7 day break in between packs so that I can have the withdrawal bleeding/'period', but I am now on my third consecutive pack without breaks. I am actually on day 9 of the 21 pill pack if that's important to know. I haven't had a period since early November. My reason is that I had a lot of projects to work on for classes at uni and I didn't want the hassle of dealing with periods.

We had sex a few times, and we used condoms. I was a bit drunk (we came home after going out for New Year's) but he wasn't, and every time I felt, he still had on the condom. He came once into the condom and withdrew as he did it, so technically he didn't come inside me (he had on a condom but he knows I'm paranoid about getting pregnant so he always takes himself out just before). then we went on for a few more rounds before stopping. We used about 3 or 4 condoms total. after he came the first time, he changed to another new condom and we continued.

I am always really paranoid about getting pregnant, as I am not ready for a child at my age. My boyfriend says that because we used condoms and I am on the pill (which I never forget to take) that I should be safe from pregnancy. However I always get panicky when I think about possibly getting pregnant. I am very anxious about these things and I cannot stop myself from overthinking :(

Does the fact that I have been taking packs consecutively without a break further protect me from pregnancy? Like I said above, I'm on day 9, so my period should come about 2 weeks from now. But I know I'm gonna kill myself with worry between now and then. I normally take the pill early in the morning, like 9am, but if I am late by a few hours does that make a massive difference? i have never gone over more than 10-12 hours.

This isn't something that I can really talk about with my mom, and while I do talk to my boyfriend about it and he always assures me, I don't want to come across as that whiny worried girlfriend..

So i'm basically asking if I run the risk of getting pregnant in this?? I'll keep taking my pills until the end of the pack but i am scared that the period due afterwards won't come :(
Thank you, and a Happy New Year.

Hello Anon
Thank you for writing!

There is no risk of pregnancy whether you take the 7 day break or take them consequentially. You've lathered yourself up in a panic for no reason. Read the science of how birth control works - you won't get pregnant.

Hi Susan, thank you for replying
okay so i don't have to worry about getting pregnant, because the condom and the birth control pill is a very effective combo?
I always get so nervous about it, and i work myself into a panic until i get my next period :(
