Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for coming to us with your concern.

Anytime you miss an active birth control pill, you run the risk of becoming pregnant if you have intercourse on that day. Making up for the missed dose as soon as possible increases your protection against pregnancy.

Birth control pills work by preventing ovulation. When you missed doses frequently, as it sounds like you have, you run the risk of triggering your body to ovulate.

I suggest you contact your gynecologist's office. Your doctor can advise you. You might want to consider another type of birth control such as the Depo-Provera injection or an IUD if remembering to take a daily pill doesn't work for you.

How soon before you start the inactive or placebo week of pills?

Regards,
Maryann
