Hi I have a fear of becoming pregnant. I haven't had intercourse in over 2 years. Every time my period is due i get nervous that it isn't coming so, I use clean hands and toilet paper to check my cervix and see if any bleeding has started. I use the toilet paper and push it right into my vagina and can feel that I'm rubbing my cervix with it. After I do this every time I freak out and think that I have gotten myself pregnant. Like what if I had touched something like a door handle or surface that was traced with sperm and semen and have now transferred it to my vagina. Is this possible??? Sorry it sounds ridiculous but it is actually a very real fear for me.

Hi deesam,

Welcome to EmpowHER.  I can start by saying, there is no reason a woman has to insert paper up her vaginal walls to clean her cervix. This is something you need to discuss with your doctor immediately. You can hurt yourself and get an infection from inserting paper. If you feel the need to cleanse yourself, there are other feminine products that are designed just for that.  The answer is NO, you cannot get pregnant from touching yourself.  The only way a woman can get pregnant is through intercourse. Hope this was helpful?

Best,

Daisy
