Q:

Could I be pregnant?

I've done a lot of research on what could be going on, I've missed 3 days worth of my birth control, I keep forgetting to pick it up after work. So my last period was Nov 6-13 which is thurday-Thursday I'm a Sunday start for my pill. Last night my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex and he came inside me *not smart*. I'm wondering my chances of actually getting pregnant. I looked at websites and ovulation calendars. But they don't take into account if you are on birth control. Although I am not sure how much that matters since I haven't actually taken a pill in almost 2 weeks.... Please help!

Hi Anon!

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community! The highest risk of pregnancy is during the second and third weeks of the menstrual cycle. While a normal cycle is considered anywhere between 21 and 35 days, the average is about 28 days.  Ovulation (the time when a woman is fertile) occurs mid month, this averages to day 14 every month give or take several days before and after. If a woman has unprotected sex around this time, she may get pregnant.

Looking at the calendar, if the start of your last period was Nov. 6th- Your most fertile day would be today! Since you have missed so many pills, they are not going to take effect against preventing pregnancy.

You might want to discuss this with your doctor or pharmacist and consider taking an emergency contraceptive pill. It is best to take an ECP immediately following any birth control failure. Some ECPs consist of one pill which is generally taken within a 72-hour window after unprotected sex.

Here is some information form the EmpowHER website about this.

Please let me know if this helps and keep me posted!
