could I be pregnant?

My last period I had was 4 days late and that was November. This month I started experiencing excrutiating cramps and my breasts had been hurting to the point that I'd cringe when I would take my bra off. I though it could've been my period but I wasn't supposed to get it for another 8 days. This was on the 13th of December and my boyfriend and I had sex(unprotected) the 11th. I have IBS and Gastritis so I thought it may have been something to do with that, I called a few urgent cares because I was worried and they all said it could be pregnancy or my period is coming early. I got my period on the 18th, 5 days later which was 3 days earlier than what I was supposed to get it and I didn't really have any cramps at all and it was heavy the first day I bled through my pants(I got it overnight) I don't know if that helps. Moreover, it's the 20th now and when I peed this morning, it was clean as a whistle. There was barely blood on my tampon, yesterday I had minor blood on my tampon but it was light and brown all mixed. Anyways, to conclude, should I take a test or not worry at all?

Hello Naniee,

Thank you for sharing your question with the community.  I know this must be very disconcerting and uncomfortable for you.  I'd love to offer some helpful insight for you.

Irregular period and breast pain can happen for many reasons.  IBS and Gastritis are not among the things that can affect that however.  Medications, little sleep, stress, vigorous exercise, or hormonal imbalances are some of the things that can cause breast pain and irregular periods.

If you became pregnant because your boyfriend ejaculated in your vagina during intercourse it would be apparent through is a missed period, or only spotting.  Because you had full, heavy periods it is not likely that you are pregnant.  To be completely sure however, you can always take a pregnancy test.  They are relatively cheap and easy to do.

I hope all goes well.  Let us know if you have any more questions.

All the best,

Faith
