Q:

Could I be pregnant?

I take birth control fairly regularly (occasionally I forget) and I had unprotected sex, but then I was worried that I could be pregnant and I read online that taking 10 birth control pills in two doses was the same as plan b. And then a few days after I stopped taking birth control (hoping to get my period) and it's been 3 days and I haven't gotten it yet. I've been getting cramps but it hasn't come yet. Could I be pregnant?

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. You can use regular birth control pills when you cannot obtain an emergency contraceptive. How many regular birth control pills you should use depends on the type or brand of regular birth control pills.

Some don’t work as emergency birth control at all. So, first you should be sure to check how whether the brand you have can be used and exactly how to use it.

Anonymous, you must consult the healthcare provider who prescribed your birth control pills. That person can best advise you on your risk for pregnancy and what to expect regarding your period.

Regards,
Maryann
