This sounds like two different issues; I am so sorry!

Removing an IUD without strings can be done. Depending on if there are some visible strings still hanging outside of the cervix, the health care providers have instruments (think: tweezers) to gently grasp the remaining shortened strings. If absolutely no strings are found outside the cervix, your doctor may dilate your cervix, so that an instrument may be inserted through your cervix to grasp the IUD and remove it.

Be sure to talk with your doctor before this procedure, and ask if there are any pain relief measures you should take beforehand, as well as if they will provide a prescription afterwards. Some women experience mild cramp-like pain; other women may feel more pressure and pain with IUD removal.

Your second issue: did you have any breast pain, difficulty breathing or depression symptoms before using the IUD?

depression yes, but absolutly no breast pain. recently found out i have a 5.2 cm cyst in my left ovary as well, and they wont remove the iud until the monitor the cyst. but i feel that the iud is causing the problem and should removed immediatly. doctor does not listen :0*(

It might be beneficial to read this....I was horrified when I read it. They know that it can be dangerous yet they do nothing about it. Shame on the Canadian Federal Government.

I had my mirena put in Sept 2009. Since then I could not have sex as the pain was probably the worst I have ever felt. Also, I had irregular bleeding (which didn't really bother me) I gained a little weight, again, didn't bother me too much. I had it removed just last week and the doctor said the reason for all the pain I felt when I had intercourse was because the mirena was only just sitting inside my vagina. It was down far too low and was being pushed into the wall. Also, it was good that I hadn' been having sex as it probably wasn't 100% protecting me! Never, ever again will I have another one. And yes, an ob/gyn inserted it.

I tried to go to the website for help but it wouldn't come up. I have had my IUD for almost two years now and it is missing in action in my abdomen. The 3 doctors (not techs) who did three different ultrasounds suspect it has torn through my uterine wall and is sitting on my rectum. By the way, they don't want to do x-rays because I'm pregnant. My husband and I have a 10 year old and were not planning on more children. He's retired from the army. Needless to say, I'm missing work from all the pain, nausea, headaches, cramps, emotional distress, etc. They want to do an x-ray when I reach my second trimester but I fear any harm to the baby. They want to perform surgery to remove the IUD and have talked about the risks to the baby with that also. Not to mention that the doctors have said that this is the 6th case they've seen recently just here locally. Something needs to be done. Mirena needs to be off the market. I personally feel that Mirena should also be held responsible for their misleading claims to the safety and effectiveness of their product! Please contact me if you hear anything about a lawsuit. I'd gladly join. My contact email is: [email protected]

i had a mirena last june. i was a heavy bleeder and mood swings passing clots every day until periods slowed down. i have been seeing a gyno for 10 years on and off he is so good so is my gp. they have helped me in everyway. i even get reiki massage and counselling to help with it all. the problem is the mirena has slowed my periods but bleed or spotting for 2/3 weeks at a time. so i went to the public hosptial and they told me that it is not the mirena it is my hormones. so i went to my gp she put me on the pill and i havenot stopped bleeding since the first week of march and still going. went back to gp she said see what the gyno says going next week. if i have hestro it will help with bleeding but the real question would i need the ovaries taken out too??? i have tried so many things over the years how much do i need to do before it all works out. iam 46 so manpause might came into know donot know. lucky i have a good husband who trys to understand.

Hi Anon, and thanks for writing. I'm sorry to hear you've having these issues. Did your GP say you would need a hysterectomy, or is that something that you're assuming the gynecologist will recommend? Most doctors would need a lot more information before making a recommendation for major, life-changing surgery. I would advise you to learn as much as you can about what is causing your bleeding and what options are available to you to deal with this. Will you let us know what you learn at your appointment? We'd be happy to help answer questions or do research for you after your gynecologist provides you with more information about your medical condition. We wish you the best outcome for your appointment.
Take care, Pat
