okay so i'm a teenager and i lost my virginity a couple days ago, my issue is that i've noticed a pale pink kind of flesh piece coming out of my vagina. From my research it sounds to be like my hyman or something ( i know its not an std or anything like that). My questions are
1. will it become a problem/ cause pain in future sex (soon sex)/ tampon using?
2. is there a way for me to fix it/get rid of it myself or is it normal?
please bear in mind going to the doctors is off limits and it doesn't really hurt at the moment but can it become painful?
if these questions were answered i'd be extremely grateful, many thanks

Hi person2257,
Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community! The hymen is just some pinkish tissue, a bit ruffled in shape, that narrows the vaginal opening, but does not close it off altogether. When you have intercourse, the hymen stretches. It can also be stretched by doing sports or using a tampon.
What you are experiencing, is completely normal. It should not interfere with using a tampon or having sex in the future.
DO NOT try to get rid of it yourself!! It is normal to have it stretch down, but you can definitely see a doctor if you are worried.
Anon, if you are going to be sexually active, that is a big decision, one that you shouldn't take lightly or be talked into by a boyfriend. I would suggest that you talk to an adult that you can trust and if you can't go to the doctor, you should go to a free clinic like Planned parenthood. There's a lot more stuff you need to know before having sex. The internet is not a replacement for talking with a healthcare professional and having them examine you.
You also need to know about pregnancy risks, birth control options and STD's. While the Internet is a great starting place, I suggest that you go to a free clinic before you have sex again. They will give you the facts and help a young teenager needs before doing grown up things.
I hope this helps. Will you let me know if you go to a free clinic in your area?
Best,
Kristin
