Q:

I took plan B two times in two days, will I be protected from pregnancy?

Hello!
I had sex about 1.5 weeks before my expected period, and my husband and I got in the heat of the moment and ended up having unprotected sex where he finished inside me. An hour later I took a Plan B pill. A few hours later me and my husband decided to have sex again with a condom this time but realized after sex that it had broken and again had finished inside of me.
I didn't know if I should've taken another plan B so I waited about 9-10 hours the next day to take another plan B pill.

Is it possible that I could still end up pregnant ?!

Hi Anon,

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community.

If you take Plan B One-Step within 24 hours of having unprotected sex, it is about 95% effective. The initial dose you took was sufficient. I wouldn't advise taking as much as you did again. Like with any medication, there are side effects. One side effect that is worth mentioning is irregular menstrual cycle. Based on the double dose you took, you will most likely experience this.

Before ever taking an additional dose of an emergency contraceptive, you should look into a more reliable birth control solutions. Emergency contraceptive, should not be used as a regular contraceptive. It's not intended for that use and may cause other issues down the line for overuse.

I hope this helps.

Be well,
