Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. I am glad you reached out to our community with your question about the chance of becoming pregnant.

When and how many pills you miss makes the difference. Seven consecutive days without an active pill, and having intercourse without backup protection poses a high risk for becoming pregnant.

If we assume the last week of your pack was inactive pills, add the seven days of inactive pills to missing the first three days of active pills, you went 10 days without a active birth control pill.

Birth control pills prevent pregnancy by preventing ovulation. Taking a daily active pill keeps hormone levels constant and thus no ovulation. When you take the inactive pills, hormone levels drop and you shed the lining of your uterus.

Please call and speak with your gynecologist to report what has happened. Follow your doctor's recommendations.

Regards,
Maryann
