My LMP was Dec 9th and on Dec 12th (saturday)I had unprotected sex and took plan B. I took one pill that evening and I took the second pill late, i took it 15 hours later insetead of 12. In fear that the pill did not work I took another dose on Monday. I started to bleed exactly one week after taking the first pill on saturday Dec 19th, I've read that the bleeding could be "withdrawl" bleeding. Is it possible to ovulate again after having the withdrawl period?
My period is now late. I took 3 pregnancy tests this week and they all come back negative. Could it be that I will NOT get my period this month because I took 2 plan b pills in 3 days. I will also mention that I've been stressed out since having unprotected sex but I don't think i can relax until i get my period. Pleae help!!

Hi,
I have a question. I had sex but the condom broke but before ejaculation another condom was put back on. I took the plan B pill just to be safe about 2 days later. My period was supposed to come 6 days after the sex. Is this normal or should I be worried and buy a pregnancy test even though it hasnt been 10 days even?

Hello Anonymous,

You are correct. Changes to the menstrual cycle are one side effect of Plan B. It can cause your period to start earlier or later than normal. Menstrual flow can be lighter or heavier than normal.

Hello Anonymous,

High stress levels, traveling and change in environment contribute to a late start in your period. Try to relax. If you do not get your period in the next two weeks, take a pregnancy test. But, I doubt you are pregnant.

Thanks Maryann,
But just to clarify, do you think the morning after pill has also contributed tot his, as I have heard it could make your 2nd period very late?

Hi im wondering if you can help me.
I have recently returned home from a summer working abroad, i had sex twice over there, the 1st time the condom ripped so i took the morning after pill within 6hrs. i got my period, although 2 weeks early, about a week after this day. i then had sex again when this finished, completly protected as he wore a condom and did not come inside me. my periods are usually very regular but i am now almost 2 weeks late. I am wondering if the morning after pill has caused this? or the fact I am stressed over this, the change in environment or lifestyle since I have returned? I am freaking out, too afraid to tell anyone and too afraid to take a test. Any help would be reasuring thanks.

Hello Anonymous,

It is understandable that you should feel concerned, but I think stress is the culprit for your late period. Try to relax and redirect your focus.

Thank you Maryann for your feed back (:
I know everyone is different, but do you have a guesstimate of time for when my menstrual cycle should be back to normal, and how normal is it to be skipping a cycle after taking the Plan B pill?

I too am having the same situation as these other ladies are having after using the Plan B pill; however, my story is a little different. I had unprotected sex for the very first time on the morning of July 25-26th, and I was expecting my period around that time anyway. After my boyfriend and I were finished I noticed a little bleeding shortly after (we both thought it was a normal bleeding from the hymen), but to be safe my boyfriend and I decided to take the Plan B pill about 12 hours later. Instead of it just being bleeding from the hymen I ended up getting my period that day (the 26th). My period lasted a total of 10 days (my usual cycle ends in 7 days), but on random days a week or two after finishing my actual period I had dark brown discharge (I'm sorry if I'm being too detailed right here). It has been more than a month after taking the pill and I still have not gotten my period. I have taken several at home pregnancy tests and they have all came out negative. I was also due for my period on the 23rd, but I am having premenstrual symptoms like: tender breasts, cravings, bloating, etc., but I am also feeling nauseous for the very first time ever; however, this month in general I have been put under a lot of stress, and even more stress because of this situation (my period being late, etc.). So, I was just wandering if I really needed to be worrying about this. Thank you for your help!

Hello Anonymous,
There is no need to take Plan B again. You have your period so you are not pregnant.

Plan B is an emergency contraceptive intended for use in situations of contraceptive failure, such as the condom breaks or emergency situations of unprotected sex. It is not intended for use as birth control. Please learn about the different types of birth control and chose the one that is best for you.
