My LMP was Dec 9th and on Dec 12th (saturday)I had unprotected sex and took plan B. I took one pill that evening and I took the second pill late, i took it 15 hours later insetead of 12. In fear that the pill did not work I took another dose on Monday. I started to bleed exactly one week after taking the first pill on saturday Dec 19th, I've read that the bleeding could be "withdrawl" bleeding. Is it possible to ovulate again after having the withdrawl period?
My period is now late. I took 3 pregnancy tests this week and they all come back negative. Could it be that I will NOT get my period this month because I took 2 plan b pills in 3 days. I will also mention that I've been stressed out since having unprotected sex but I don't think i can relax until i get my period. Pleae help!!

Hello Anonymous,

She should get a normal period within the next month after taking Plan B. Sometimes, pill can change the length of the menstrual cycle, making the next period come as much as a week earlier or a week later than normal. Some women also find that the hormones in the pills can cause unexpected bleeding, but this is not a common or serious side effect. If she does not get her period within three weeks of taking Plan B, she should take a pregnancy test.

Is it ok that she takes a pregnancy test right now. Will it give out the right reading on the test?

Hello. I was due for my period (28 day cycle) on friday- I am on no birth control. On saturday I had unprotected sex in which my boyfriend accidentally came inside me. I took Plan B Sunday morning. Today is now Wednesday- i have had NO signs of bleeding/spotting and have also not had any cramps. I am about 5 days late for my period. Advice?

I took 3 Plan B One step pills over the last 4 months, all three times due to broken condoms. This last time was the only time where I started spotting, and have been spotting for a bout a month. I have also had what seemed to be like a period for 4 to 5 days.

The spotting varied from dark brown discharge to red and pink discharge, and from heavy to very light or none. I also have mild lower abdomen cramps almost everyday. All the HPTs were negative. I have not had intercourse in the last one month, which was when I took the last pill.

I understand that the repeated use of Plan B is only for emergencies and can cause a big disturbance in hormone levels, but is there anything I should be worried about? How long would it take for my cycles to regularize?

I do not have insurance, and cannot go see doctor at this time.

If anyone else has experienced this before, please share your experience.

Hello Anonymous,

The reason why you have not gotten your period this month is because you have upset the normal hormonal balance that regulates your menstrual cycle.

Plan B contains a high dose of a synthetic hormone similar to the hormone normally produced by your body. Taking Plan B while you were menstruating really messed up your body.

Be patient and relax. You are not pregnant because you had your period following the condom failure intercourse. Your body needs time to reset its hormonal balance.

Also, i had sex with him a day before my period, got my period the next day.. and i took the plan b pill while i was on my period, just to be sure.. but i still haven't gotten my period yet and i'm kinda freaking out.

Hello BriannaHolman,

Plan B is about 95% effective in reducing the risk of pregnancy if taken within 24 hours of unprotected sex, 89% effective if taken within 72 hours following unprotected sex.

Plan B can cause your next period to be start earlier or later than is normal for you. If you don't get your period within three weeks, get a pregnancy test to make sure that you're not pregnant.
