Q:

Late

I'm a freshman in college and under quite a bit of stress being away from home for the first time. My period is 5 days late, and I'm really anxious about it. My boyfriend and I have protected sex and we've never had any problems with condoms or anything, but my period is still late. Any advice? I really am terrified at the thought of being pregnant. Is it just late because I'm stressed and adjusting to a new environment?

Guide

Hi Anon -

Yes, it's very possible - in fact, it's very likely - that your entire body is under quite a bit of stress right now and one of the impacts is that your period is late. You have shared that you and your boyfriend take a responsible approach to sex, and while your worry is understandable, the precautions you take should be working for you.

College has a lot of challenges and adjustments, especially the first year. Try taking a deep breath and relaxing as much as your studies and life allows. I bet your period will be here soon.

Hope that helps,

Pam
