I missed taking my birth control on saturday. I had sex on Sunday around 830AM. I took two birth control pills Sunday at 4PM. Is there a chance I could be pregnant? Should I take any additional measures? HELP! We are no longer having sex.

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to our community with your question.

You did the right thing and no further steps are necessary. You should have been protected from becoming pregnant.

Miss a dose, make it up. Miss tow, back it up (use a condom).

Also, does it matter what week on the birth control pills I am on?

Hello Pepperpass,

Yes it does matter. For example, if you miss the first pill in week one, you will have gone eight days without an active hormone pill.

Hi Pepperpass,

Ideally, you should have taken the missed pill when you realized it and the daily dose at the usual time. As long as it was within 24 hours, you should have been okay.

Review the insert that comes with your pills. It should tell you what to do in the event of missing a dose.

Regards,
Maryann
