Q:

My period is late after taking Postinor 2

Hello,
I was on my 6th day of my cycle (just finishing my period). The condom split so I took the first tablet of postinor2 2 hours later (1am). We then had unprotected sex 6 hours later (7am). I took the 2nd postinor tablet 3 hours later(10am).
8 days later I had heavy bleeding lasting 4 days. Firstly, is this a sign that postinor worked?
Since then i have had no sign of my period.
In the last 2 weeks (aboit 22nd day of cycle) I have had the flu and been unwell. This has all made me quite anxious.
My period cycle is quite irregular.
Thanks for your help in advance

Hi,

Some women do experience a change in their period's flow after ECP. It can be lighter or heavier and may be longer or shorter in duration.

Hello I took postinor on the 2nd of august after having unprotected sex on the 31st .. 5 days after taking the tab i experienced bleeding heavily with clots ..it started off brown then turn bright red nd the flow was very heavy and it eased up nd did this same thing for about four days .. i took ah pregnancy test 14 days after sex (negative) ..19 days after sex (negative) & 21 days after sex (negative) .I've been bloated since 3 weeks after takin the pill and i also gained ah bit of weight ..my belly looks bigger but i believe it's because I'm bloated but i don't understand why I'm still bloated ..i began to bleed again around the 30 of August but the flow was light nd not like my regular periods .. it was red but the flow was not as heavy .. i still experience some pain on the right side of my lower abdominal and i am still bloated .. does withdrawal bleeding from postinor 2 means it worked? ..i don't understand

Hi,

Some women don't get withdrawal bleeding, but typically yes, this means the ECP was effective. Your pregnancy tests have confirmed this. It's not uncommon for your cycle to be off for a time after using ECP. It should go back to normal by the next cycle. However, if you are concerned about the bloating, you can check-in with your GYN about it.

Hi,

ECP can cause a delay in your period and this is likely what you are experiencing. If you don't get your period with a week or two of the expected time, testing for pregnancy is recommended.
