Ovulation and the pill

Hi! I'm on the contraceptive pill - I understand that the seven-day break is a withdrawal bleed rather than an actual period, but is it still possible to ovulate during this seven-day break with the rise of hormones and such?
Thank you!

Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

The 21 days of pills before breakthrough bleeding prevents ovulating so when taken correctly, a woman doesn't ovulate during the 7 day break. The bleeding is due to hormone withdrawal but restarts on the day 1 of the Pill. This is why there is no need to use protection during those 7 days.
