I am 46 years old and always had a normal cycle. A few months ago my period was about 10 days late....I wasn't sure how late I was so I started using a period tracker. For months it has been normal! This last period was 15 days late! Without cramping or normal premenstral symptoms my period started! It has been a low flow period now for 15 days. Its not a normal period...more like a small cut that won't stop bleeding! Its bright red like fresh blood and when I sit on the toilet drips like a cut! I have not seen my Dr yet because I didn't think he could check me while I was bleeding. But since this isint like a normal period I don't know when it will stop! Starting to be concerned?? Thank you so much for any answers you may have

Thank you Erin! My last blood test the Dr said I had high glucose levels....I have had an underactive thyroid condition and been taking medication for years. I don't feel any different then normal other then having to wear tampons 24/7! Are there symptoms with diabetes? I will contact him and make an appointment! Thank you again!

Hi smillerof2,

Thank you for reaching out to EmpowHER with your question! Irregular periods can be very confusing at times, especially when you are used to a more regular menstrual cycle.

Irregular periods can be caused by a variety of things including:

  • stress
  • increased exercise
  • excessive weight loss/weight gain
  • birth control
  • travel
  • medication
  • uncontrolled diabetes
  • illness

Since this is irregular to you, I would still suggest setting up an appointment with your doctor. Even if you are bleeding, they will be able to check you out and give you a much better idea as to what is causing irregularities in your period.

I hope this has helped! Please keep me updated and let me know if you have further questions.

Best,
Erin
