Q:

period keeps coming later and later each month

About four months ago my period was about 3 days late but I wasn't worried, the next month it was a week late, then a week and a half, and this month it was two full weeks late. Normally, my period spots the first day, does nothing the second day, and a regular period starting the 3rd day. This month I spotted days 1 and 3, did nothing days 2 and 4 and gushed day 5 followed by the regular bleeding. I turned 30 last month, am I going perimenopausal or is my mom right that I could be pregnant?

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to our community with such an interesting situation.

If you were older than 30 years old, I would have said you are showing early signs of perimenopause.

If your bleeding had not increased to a flow by day 5, I would have thought you could be pregnant.

The menstrual cycle is regulated by a precise balance of hormones. Pregnancy and perimenopause are two reasons for changes or absence in a period.

My suggestion is to schedule an appointment with your gynecologist. Some factor is upsetting this balance. Please keep us updated.

Regards,
Maryann
