Q:

Is pregnancy possible?

So, I had my first sexual intercourse ever last February, 1. We did it with protection, a condom. He didn't even put that much into me, just the tip of it, and also took it out a long time before he actually came. We made sure the condom wasn't broken by filling it with water, after the relation. It wasn't. So, that was the only time we did it. After that, we went through many masturbation experiences, on which he ejaculated. It happens that my period is very irregular, and I have no idea when my ovulation is supposed to happen. My last period was by the middle of January, more or less. After that sexual intercourse, I had some transparent discharges, but nothing with too much intensity. I assumed that would be a sign of the ovulation. Until today. I woke up and felt a large discharge, and instantly thought it should be my period. For my surprise, it was just a transparent big discharge of mucus, the egg white type one, very elastic and in a large amount. But later, there was a little blood discharge, a light one. Then, it left with a caramel-color mucus and, by the night, I saw a thing that just reminded of blood vessels, when I went to the toilet, and it had a real blood color. My question is: 17 days after the sexual intercourse, is there a possibility this little blood discharge, or spotting, is related to a possible pregnancy?

Hi, juliarezende.

Thank you for reaching out to EnpowHER.

Vaginal discharge can change throughout your cycle. Around the time of ovulation, cervical mucus will increase and it will feel elastic, clear and have the consistency of egg whites. It's nothing to worry about. As for being pregnant, you say your boyfriend wore a condom (correctly, with no breakage) and there was no ejaculation inside you, so you shouldn't worry that you are pregnant.

Hello, Helena. I'm really thankful for your answer.

So, what do you think this light red blood discharge may be? I thought it may be from ovulation, but this never happened before.

Hi again.

It's not uncommon to have some (sometimes intermittent) brown discharge for a few days after menstruation — that's old blood making its exit. Or you might experience a little brown (or pink) spotting or discharge around ovulation.
