Starting pill pack a day late

Hi, I take Apri birth control. I have been on the pill about a year and a half. I was supposed to start my new pack of pills last night (March 14) around 8 p.m., but due to a family emergency I wasn't home so I missed taking it. I woke up at 6:30 this morning (March 15), and took it right away, so basically I was 10 1/2 hours late starting the new pack. I plan on taking it at regular time tonight. Am I protected, or do I need to use back up contraception?

Hello unicornprincess21,

Welcome again to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to us with your question.

You did the right thing by making up for the missed dose as soon as possible, are protected and do not need to use a back up contraceptive.

Hope everything is better,
Maryann
