I had an 'attack' that felt like food poisoning or the worst ever stomach flu one evening. So I took about 8 activated charcoal tablets and tried to sleep. It was a bad night. Next morning I went to emerg at the hospital. Thankfully my family doctor was on call, and he put me in for diagnosis and treatment. I received fluids, rest, and antibiotics. Next morning, I had a CT Scan and it was determined that I had an enlarged left kidney with several kidney stones. Off by ambulance to a another hospital to see a specialist. He operated right away and inserted a stent. I continued antibiotics, rest, and drank lots of water to get rid of the infection. Later, I returned to see the specialist about 'zapping' the remaining stones, and removing the stent. The stent limited my movement and activities, but was necessary to avoid the more extreme pain of 'passing stones'. It has been just over two months since the initial 'attack' and I have resumed regular activities. Praise the Lord! I am struggling to change my habits in regards to drinking enough water, and diet... but will continue the struggle cuz I'm worth it ! Also, a more recent scan shows the presence of a 2mm stone remaining in my left kidney.

Hi AJ_Lou - It's been a while since you posted your comments, and I'm wondering how you're doing now. Are you feeling better? Have you had any problems due to the 2mm stone in your left kidney? Any words of wisdom for others who may be diagnosed with kidney stones? We'd love to hear from you again.

Hi AJ
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. It helps others who may go through the same thing, and knowing someone else made it through okay really helps lessen fear.
I'm so glad you are feeling better.
