My inability to recall words has been getting worse and worse over the past 20 year so I decided to retire soon.
Then a fortnight ago I realised that my memory has become normal again. After at least 20 years of inconvenience. There are two possible reasons. I discovered I am allergic to Gluten, I think I have been since a child. I was on iron tablets for anaemia when I was four years of age. I have always had IBS but I got to the stage where I had constant Diarrhea and dizziness. It is now 6 months since I stopped consuming gluten and this could be the reason that my memory has come back.
The other reason is that I am on Livial. I had only been taking it for 2 weeks when my memory returned, which doesn’t really seem long enough to make such a marked difference.
I am told that one's memory comes back with Livial, but surely not after only two weeks?
I was told by my gastroenterologist that many women say, "The fog has lifted", after they change to a gluten free diet. At the time I did not know what she meant but now I do.
Has anyone else experienced such a phenonomen?
One other thing, I was very dizzy all the time before I started the gluten free diet. The neurologist called it Gluten ataxia. Has anyone else experienced this?

Rosalind - Thanks for sharing your story. You must be feeling quite a sense of relief these days.
Gluten sensivity can impact major body systems such as the digestive system and nervous system. Some people with gluten sensivity also experience loss of brain cells from their cerebellum, the part of the brain that controls balance and coordination, and that is involved in thinking and emotional response.
I did some research on Gluten Ataxia, and it makes sense that you stopped feeling dizzy and are generally feeling better after starting a gluten-free diet. Ataxia means wobbliness, a lack of coordination and unsteadiness due to the brain's failure to regulate the body's posture and regulate the strength and direction of limb movements. Ataxia is usually a consequence of disease in the brain, specifically in the cerebellum. It can also be caused by gluten intolerance. A study done a few years ago showed that changing to a gluten-free diet greatly reduced patient symptoms: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12933922

As far as Livial, this is a hormone replacement drug and is a synthetic steroid. I'm not able to find any clinical references regarding any role it may play in restoring memory. I did find multiple warnings about possible side effects. You can find more information about it from this site from the U.K. http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100001519.html
I hope this helps you, and that you will soon be a member of the Celiac Group.
Take care,
