Hi, I’m Bailey Mosier. This is your EmpowHER HER Daily Dose.
We sometimes wonder if there’s a difference between love and lust and why people behave differently when motivated by each. Some recent research found love and lust activate separate but related areas of the brain.
Researchers from Concordia University in Montreal analyzed data from 20 studies that monitored brain activity in people while engaged in activities such as viewing erotic pictures or photographs of their romantic partners.
Specifically, sexual desire activates a part of the brain region typically activated by pleasurable things like food or sex. Meanwhile, love activates a part of the brain that plays a role in pairing value with these rewarding or pleasurable things.
The researchers say no one has ever mapped out the patterns of activation for love and lust and they didn’t know what they were going to find. It turns out the two are related … so does that help you sort out your feelings toward your guy?
