Hi, I’m Bailey Mosier. This is your HER Daily Dose.
If you’ve ever had a urinary tract infection, you’ve probably heard you’re supposed to drink cranberry juice to help ease the pain. But where did that come from and is there any validity behind it? Turns out, there just might be.
Researchers from National Taiwan University Hospital and the National Taiwan University College of Medicine analyzed the results of 13 studies that included 1,616 people to demonstrate the link between cranberry intake and decreased UTI risk. On a whole, consuming cranberry products was linked with a 38 percent decrease in urinary tract infections.
Half of all women experience UTIs and 30 percent of these women will get recurrent UTIs. UTIs are typically cleared up with antibiotics, but this study found validity in cranberry products and their ability to help ward off future UTIs.
That wraps up your HER Daily Dose. Join me here at EmpowHER.com every weekday for your next dose of women’s health.
