Hi, I’m Bailey Mosier. This is your EmpowHER HER Daily Dose.
Independence Day is just around the corner and I hope you’re all going to celebrate our nation’s birthday with family and friends and hopefully even some fun in the sun. Here are a few tips to keep in mind for a safe and happy 4th of July.

Stay hydrated and if you’re going to enjoy a few adult beverages, try alternating between alcohol and water.

If you’re at the beach or at a pool, supervise children at all times. If they are weak swimmers, stay within arm’s length.

Don’t forget about sunscreen! Reapply on your kids between swims, and use at least SPF 30.

What would the 4th of July be without a cookout?

Keep children at least three feet away from the grill, use gas or charcoal grills outside only and never add charcoal starter fluid when the coals are already ignited.

If you live in a county where it’s legal to shoot off fireworks, then go ahead, but make sure you’re being smart about it.

Always have an adult light the fireworks and sparklers. Keep them away from children, and make sure your audience is set back from the lighting area. Read the directions. Don’t light with any part of your body over the firework, and always point in a safe direction (not at people, houses, etc).

Keep a bucket of water for emergencies, and for soaking used fireworks — they can still be explosive!

Enjoy the holiday and the time out of the office. From all of us here at EmpowHER, have a safe and enjoyable July 4th and we’ll see you here at EmpowHER.com on the 5th for your next dose of women’s health.
