Hi, I’m Bailey Mosier. This is your EmpowHER HER Daily Dose.
The temperature is rising and that means more weekend pool parties, BBQs and plenty of reason to reach for a tasty sweets. If you’re going to indulge in some desserts this summer, here’s some tips to be smart about it.

Be weary of frozen yogurts who claim to be healthy for you because the National Yogurt Association says not all products labeled as “frozen yogurt” contain any live active cultures. And remember, to aim for a half-cup serving.

If fudge is your thing, try buying fudge bars with no more than 150 calories each. A number of brands now make low-calories treats and some that are even fat-free. As for ice cream sandwiches…who says you have to eat the whole thing? Try cutting it up in smaller pieces and sharing with friends.

Look for frozen fruit bars that are no more than 150 calories and be leery of labels that claim they’re made with 100 percent real fruit. You can also make your own by freezing 100 percent juice into an ice pop mold.

We’re all going to want to splurge here and there this summer and that’s OK, but if you’re not careful, those little sweets can add up to large amounts of calories and fat.

That wraps up your EmpowHER HER Daily Dose. Join me here at EmpowHER.com every weekday for your next dose of women’s health.
