Keri recalls how she and her husband decided to adopt children from Ethiopia.

Keri:
We chose Ethiopia because it was a good fit for us. We researched a bunch of the other countries and we felt Ethiopia, they have over six-million orphans there, and they have a huge orphan problem, and also, the government has a very good system setup for their adoption process. It’s a well-established system. There is a lot of oversight in the agencies that go over there. They try to prevent child trafficking as best they can; it’s monitored, and the Ethiopian people, they love their children.

They, when, we were blown away when we went to the orphanage and the care that these kids received. There was one caretaker to two children, so these kids got a lot of attention, whereas in some of the other countries they don’t. They go to orphanages and they just don’t get a whole lot of care. So the Ethiopian people, as a whole, love their children although they have this big orphan problem.

The government also does understand the need that these children are better off to come home to a loving family rather than to stay in the orphanage, so they try to make the process go as smooth as possible, and they make the process go quickly. So that’s one of the reasons why, those are the many reasons why we chose Ethiopia, and then our kids are just so cute.
