Hi, I am Dr. Susan Kellogg Spadt. I am from the Pelvic and Sexual Health Institute of Philadelphia where I am the Director of Sexual Medicine. In that capacity I see patients with complaints of sexual pain, issues with orgasm, arousal and desire every single day.
Actually, it is. The large majority of women - 60 percent to 70 percent of women - experience their climax or their orgasms during different activities other than penis-in-vagina intercourse. Those can include direct oral stimulation of the clitoris, manual stimulation of the clitoris, vibrator stimulation of the clitoris, self-stimulation of the clitoris. Sometimes women have orgasms in different ways that are in the vagina, sometimes they are not in the vagina. They are actually dreaming at night and they will have an orgasm while they are dreaming at night. All of these are very normative statistics, but the truth is that most women do not have orgasm during penis-in-vagina intercourse. It is particularly natural, normal and it the experience of most women.

Dr. Susan Kellogg Spadt is a Professor of OB/GYN at Drexel University College of Medicine, and professor of Human Sexuality at Widner University. She is also the Director of Vulvar Pain and Sexual Medicine at The Pelvic and Sexual Health Institute. She has her Ph.D. in Human Sexuality from the University of Pennsylvania; her post-masters certificate as an OB/GYN Practitioner from the University of Pennsylvania's Center for Professional Development; her MSN as a Maternal-Child Clinical Specialist from Loyola University and her BSN from the College of St. Teresa.
