Another "Pregnant? or just Stress-induced missed period?" question

The start of my most recent period was on Feb 26 - projected ovulation date being March 14, projected next period March 28 (via MyMonthlyCycles, where I have been keeping track of my period for 1 year). Average cycle - 30 days.

We had protected intercourse on March 3 and 24. The condom didn't break; slipped down maybe an inch but we pushed it right back up.

Now my period is 3 or 4 days late (depending if you count the 28th), with no usual signs of cramping etc that I normally get. Took two HPT's and both came out negative. Discharge looks normal, no tenderness of breasts or anything. I have had a little bit of an upset stomach but I think I may just be getting sick - I am under quite a bit of stress.

I know it's unlikely that I am pregnant, but I am paranoid since I can't afford to have a child right now. I have heard that stress really can throw off a regular period (I have been regular for 8 years now), but I have a hard time believing it since I am so paranoid... help? I don't know what's wrong with me!

Have a GYNO appt coming up in a month, but I'm the type of person who likes to know without going to the doc! It sure would be nice if my period would come!

Hi. Everyone. I'm just concerned anout my cycle, my last drop was April 22/24 i dont remember but just within those dates. We had a do with my bf last May 25, so it seems i am delayed a month from my last period. I know its safe because he withdrawed it and i masturbate it outside. Why am i delayed? I experiencing uterine contractions/pain and feels like that i have but most of them are false alarms. Another thing is, this coming June2&3, i'll have to take for the licensure board exam. Am i stress and my anxiety affects my cycle? Thankyou. :)

Hello Anonymous,

It is possible that high stress levels and anxiety may be the reason that your period is late. However, since you are late by one month, correct?, and are sexually active, I suggest you take a home pregnancy test.

Hello RenmaeBas,

The chance of getting pregnant this way is minimal. Any time, especially if you are ovulating, sperm comes in contact with a woman's outer genitalia, there is a chance for conception. It only takes one sperm to swim into your vagina. If a released egg is waiting, the sperm fertilizes the egg and pregnancy results.

If your period is late beyond one week, I suggest you take a home pregnancy test.

Regards,

Maryann

I need help! This whole month of April that's passed was horrible, I've been stressing a lot. But I had protected sex with my boyfriend a number of times, and we checked the condom. The condom didn't slip off, nor did it rip. But I was supposed to start my period on the 29th of April and its the 6th of May and I haven't started. I have like a gassy feeling in my stomach causing a bit of cramps. I dont know whats happening. I hope im not pregnant. Someone help! Im only eighteen and I graduate next month, im not ready! :(

Hello Anonymous,
Periods of excess stress, especially during ovulation, can cause a missed period. In response to stress, the adrenal glands release a surge of hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol. Among other things, cortisol suppresses the reproductive system and digestive system.

To put your mind at ease, you may want to take a home pregnancy test. The negative results may reduce your anxiety and your period may start.

Hi,

I need help. My girlfriend and I are sexually active. She had started the pillar the beginning of February but then stopped in march for her sugar pills because it was making her hair thinner. We had se 3 days after her period. Using a condom but it slipped off as I pulled out to ejaculat oh her back.i checked the condo for holes just in case and everything but there is no holes. Now it's been 2 days since her missed period and she usually had irregular periods. But now she has NO SYMPTOMS OF PMS OR AF! I'm afraid we might be pregnant. Could we be?

Hello Anonymous,

It is unlikely that your girlfriend could have conceived. A woman has the greatest chance of conceiving if she has unprotected sexual intercourse during ovulation. Ovulation generally occurs midcycle, about 14 days before the start of her next monthly period. Three days after her period ended is too early for ovulation to occur.

If her period is late beyond one week, she should take a pregnancy test.
