Any help for skin that gets sticky when it gets wet?

sticky skin

Three nights ago I noticed that after washing my hands they felt really sticky, almost like when you use the last paper towel on the roll and you get that glue residue on your hands. However, it wasn't the last paper towel so I figured maybe the liquid soap was really old and doing funky things so I rewashed with dish soap and again grabbed a paper towel. Once again, my hands got sticky as I dried them off. Thinking now that there was something wrong with these paper towels, I washed again and this time dried with a hand towel only to yet again find my hands sticky as they dried off. The stickiness only lasts 30-60 seconds, until the skin completely dries, but during that in-between time of soaking wet and totally dry they feel very tacky to the touch and my fingers will actually stick to each other.

The next day when I took a shower I noticed that the water was beading up on the skin on my arms. Sure enough, when I dried off afterwards I found that all of my skin is tacky to the thouch until it is completely air dried.

Today I shaved my legs and my skin felt almost like it had a layer of wax on it that kept catching the razor. The skin on my hands seems to be getting more sticky when they get wet. Water continues to bead on my skin when it gets wet. I asked my children if they can feel that my skin is sticky to the touch and they said yes.

This is affecting all of my skin now, including my face. I always put a moisturizer on my face after washing and it does not feel like my skin is absorbing it now, it just feels heavy and greasy since the lotion just sits there on top. I also tried putting lotion on my hands and it was not absorbed at all, just left my hands feeling very slimy and greasy so I wiped it off.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this or have any suggestions for what might be causing it? Thanks for any held you can give.

Hi stickymess: This is Diane: How are things going. Is the sauna thing what you expected? IS the tetracycline doing right by you? You are so right to bring extra eyes and ears to dr appointments, however even tho i had that extra person with me it never stopped doctors from treating me with disrespect. I think they think they are immune to illness. God allows these same people who treat us poorly to eventually become humbling individuals themselves if HE chooses to do so and it does happen! NO unkind individual is immune to becoming a patient at some point in their lives --even doctors. I love the fact that someone ministered wellness to you on the plane. Now its up to you to BELIEVE you are healed. People tend to waiver in their belief because they don't see immediate results from prayers prayed over them. This is a test of faith. Envision yourself as being WELL. You will see. This is all Gods timing not ours. The other thing is I had a repair done on my 1 1/2 years old washing machine and when they pulled off the top there was rusty looking buildup in this big round piece. I had to wash it in a sink nearby and I was told my piece looked good compared to some others the repairman has seen. It got me feeling disgusted because Im thinking clothes should be clean and here is this gooky mess with mold and rust stains on it. Repairman said all washing machines need to have this cleaned yearly. I have a top load and I cant believe all machines harbor this stuff on it. Even under the agitator and basket which was replaced yesterday I noticed like rust looking stuff. Last week i had to call the water dept because water looked tan and I told them to flush the nearby hydrant. when they responded, i saw all brown water come out of the hydrant for 10-15 minutes before it cleared up. This water discoloration has been for years on my shower walls and shower liner. They usually harbor an orange tinge. I wish i had the money to gut my bathroom or move. Its unsettling to see this water we're showering in and washing our clothes with. Never in my life have i seen anything to this degree with my current living conditions!! My hands seem to be getting stickier. Im dreading summer because my hands will probably sweat. Anyway I wish i was writing good news at this time. Just wanted to catch up with you and send my regards. I will keep you in my steady prayers for complete recovery, just do your part and believe in miracles OK? Talk to you soon. BLESSED EASTER. :)

Hi friends! Diane, thanks for checking on me. I've kept the sauna time to a minimum as I don't want to accidentally get dehydrated per your suggestion. I wish I had good news to report, but the strong round of tetracycline did not knock out my staph epidermidis infection! :( Now I'm moving onto plan b and searching for a specialist who will use IV antibiotics so I can get this awful bug out of my system. Thank you for keeping me focused on my faith... I know God is in control of my health & he will lead me to the right doctor. I dread trying to find a new one as we know some of them are cruel, but I BELIEVE that in time I will be lead to the right one. I can relate so much to what you said about bringing people with you to your appointments and still being treated badly... we have to be our own advocates and keep trying to get the help we need!

Sorry to hear about your water issue. Unfortunately the only way to find out exactly what that junk is in your water is to have it tested, and that gets very expensive. Keep plugging away and you'll get it under control. My red residue has been kept at bay since they put bleach in the hot water heater, but I know that's only a temporary fix to a long term problem. I haven't been able to move either, but I plan to do so within a year to see if the water situation is better. Good luck to you. Happy Easter!!

There's a great deal of truth in what you say regarding positive thinking. When you take your mind off your problems things get better, especially when you become more concerned with helping those who surround you.

I've had the "sticky skin" for some time now. I have the following conditions which are the same as many of those who've posted, previously.

*Severe Allergies
*Chronic Yeast Infection
*Questionable Water Quality

I'll continue to isolate cause and effect. I'll post any documented findings and conclusions should they take place. I'll also continue to view this board as it seems the best source for support and information I've seen to date.

Good luck to all!

Candida infections are (alternative type medicine) treated with a molecule called "Lufeneron"
Keywords (google): "Lufeneron Candida"
It is not approved medicine but the molecule has a safe reference.

Another tip is to have your cholesterol and triglyceride levels tested.
(a standard test done via GP and/or specialist)
If only slightly elevated: ask for a so called "statin"
A more expensive alternative is with extended release Niacin.
(see above post)

For sticky skin can also be tried: silk protein based cosmetic(s)
You can find a product with silk protein (or any other component) by doing a search with a dedicated search machine called cosmetic database.

keywords/google: "cosmetic database"

Write down the component(s) you look for: and you will get an index that includes the brand name

Thanks Anonymous! You are very knowledgable. Do you know about these treatments from personal experience or are you a physician?

Hey Diane, great to hear from you. I'm hanging in there but still dealing with the same things. Thanks for the info... it's very helpful to learn about alternative methods of treatment! I'm convinced that yeast, whether it's an allergy or not, is the underlying cause to the sticky syndrome. I recently discovered a rash on the back of my neck and hairline and the culture came back as yeast. I also had a culture on my breast area that is showing up as yeast, plus I've battled vaginal yeast so now I know it's all throughout my body. This explains why the MRSA treatment didn't work 100% because the yeast is overpowering everything. My main focus now is diet & detoxing. I'll let you know how things go! Have you had any unexplained rashes with your sticky skin? Look forward to hearing from you! :)

Hi stickymess: Diane here, Sorry your treatment wasn't what u expected! When did u start the detoxing? I guess this may be challenging. I am not willing to give up the sweets entirely. I believe sugar is as addictive as coffee, cigarettes, chocolate etc. therefore, withdrawal from such can be so bothersome one can tend to give in and have to start all over again. Will power and having accountability to someone may help accomplish the goal. Are u following suggestive diets from the books??? If u tell me a month from now u are cured from the stickiness I may seriously consider doing this as well. I'm just hesitant because of possible weight loss. I can't afford to lose weight. This holds me back from committing. My stickiness is still there I just dont dwell on it as much. I wonder what happened to everyone else on this website? Seems like just you and I are still trying to reason and living with the problem still. I hope u can share a wonderful story with me that u are healed from all that seems to be ailing u. THINK POSITIVE about all health matters. It works for me. Everyday even if i have aches and pains i say, "All is well.. I feel great" then i go about my day and my pains disappear. Even last month I had a slight fever, accompanied by bodyaches, fatigue, etc. I refused to lay down so I walked around the house saying "I feel great" outloud and by that night I was 85% better. True story. It takes practice and so worth the effort. I also thank God everyday for making me whole. Having an attitude of gratitude means so much. We weren't created to be sick and have medical problems. We were created to live life abundantly. A little suggestion...Try Turning the TV off. there's too many commercials for drugs, ill health, Dr shows, etc. All negative stuff going into our heads which can manifest itself and show up negatively in our bodies. Thanks to Tv and commericals they've created a wave of hypochondriacs and hysteria everytime one even gets a pimple! Listen to beautiful music instead (I like worship music because it gets me focused and away from the troubles of this world and renews my thinking). At this point in my life I see what doesn't work and that's worrying and thinking myself into an illness that ought not be there in the first place. Be watchful what goes in your ears and what your eyes see. It will improve all aspects of your life. I always wish u well. Keep me posted and Keep the faith

HIi.This is kacha. I just wanted to thank Diane for the very helpful info about what your dermatologist has to say, seems like the first time any doctor really wants to get to the bottom of what is causing this condition, and why it can appear without medication. Getting my hopes up a little bit, looking forward to hear abot what he has to say more. and thinking that I should try taking vit E, why not. I`m already taking a supplement with different types of antioxidants, vitamines and minerals, that containes vit E, but the doseof course needs tobe higher. Did you dermatologist have any suggestions about how high a dose that is needed?
Take care everone/ kacha.
