Anyone else suffering from Keratosis Pilaris? (KP - 'bumpy' skin condition, mainly on upper arms)

Does anyone else have KP?

It's a skin condition where you have those red 'chicken bumps' mainly on the upper arms. I have it - badly!

Now that I sniff spring in the air, my arms are exposed and I'm looking for something that may work.

I have tried Lac Lotion - didn't work. I tried KP Doctor this winter - didn't work.

Sadly - a lot of sun helps but I'd rather KP than skin cancer. Retin-A helps too but I'd have to be permanently out of the sun and that's not a lot of help either.

This is a very common condition. Some of us have it worse than others. Right now I am relying on an exfoliant, daily moisturizer and self-tanning cream to stave off that redness!

I'd love some more tips!

Susan,
I'm curious if your or anyone has tried any of these suggestions mentioned this time last year?

I have KP, and have had most of my life. I NEVER wear sleevless shirts because of the bumps and redness, and would love something that helps.

My son has eczema, and I use Aquafor on his skin, which helps. I've been using it on my skin the past few weeks, and have noticed a difference! Plus, it's much cheaper than the other products mentioned...but I'm still curious to try something else.

try moisturizer with soy extract from Aveeno, dont know about the KP but it is proven to even out skin tone AND texture. It got rid of all my red marks from acne ... YAY! I promise it will rid of every discoloration know to man, age spots, brown spots and sun spots. Trust me your complexion will glow!!

is the colection of dead skin cells around the hair follicles, glycolic acid or lactic acid - two treatments also commonly used to exfoliate the face - are often helpful. Some people use rougher exfoliation methods, but those often only irritate the skin and leave it even more red. Supplements of vitamin A are also said to help. I take additional vitamin A because I tend toward acne, and it definitely helps my skin overall.

I had a huge issue with KP when I was younger, but it went away as I got older. But I have so much sun damage from my young and stupid days that I am now using all the skincare I use on my face on my arms and decolette, too. It has made a noticeable difference, though it is a little costly!

Last time I bought it, it was around $100 (I think). Again, it lasts a long time.

I don't know. I have fair skin.

Is that what it's called! My daughter has it really badly this time of year, too, and during winter. Knowing that she has sensitivities to products (like mother, like daughter), she has tried Aveeno body wash, Olay (fragrance free), Aveda, Neutrogena, Pears soap, you name it! I wash all the sheets in fragrance free liquid gel for baby clothes and made her change her sheets ever week, whether she liked it or not, LOL! Her doctor hasn't been much help and I think she should see a dermatologist.

I'll look into Dermal Nectar for her, thanks for that suggestion, Joanna.

P.S. Is it more common among fair-skinned people? My daughter has that very fair, delicate Asian skin, while I have olive skin and only attract mosquitos like a duck on a june bug.

I order Dermal Nectar from this place: http://www.bareskinofscottsdale.com/skin_care_line.html It is pretty expensive, but you don't use a lot & it lasts a while. It works pretty well & is all natural. Plus, it smells good!
