A recent news release caught my eye - See Below. What do you think of this idea of having a special section at a public event like a ballgame for people with gluten intolerance or Celiac disease? Is this a good thing and chance to meet others? Is this something that would make you uncomfortable? Gluten-free Section at August 31st Mariners Game
Baseball fans with gluten intolerance and Celiac disease will have the chance to safely indulge in some traditional ballpark fare at a special event just for them at Safeco Field.
On Tuesday, August 31, people who eat a gluten-free diet will not only get a discount on tickets to sit together as a group, there will also be a concession stand stocked with food items that fit their strict dietary restrictions. Discount tickets for the special Gluten-Free section are $11 each (regularly $20) and are online only.
Safeco Field already features several gluten-free options at concession stands such as halibut and chips at Sound Seafood at Section 248 that are made with rice flour, nachos, peanuts and popcorn and Redbridge beer made from Sorghum. On August 31, the stand at Section 347 will feature gluten-free hot dog buns (the dogs themselves are all meat and contain no gluten), and Redbridge beer.

Wow! What a great service to baseball fans with celiac disease!!! My 11 year old son was diagnosed with celiac disease two years ago....So much has changed for him since his diagnosis. He is a baseball fanatic, but now when we go to the games all he can have is a bottle of water and the peanuts....We would love to attend a function like this at our ballpark (Angel Stadium) and to finds gluten free food for him to indulge in. Hopefully some other ballparks will follow the Mariners lead.
