Q:

Brief sharp pain in right nipple

So I haven't seen this exact issue addressed yet: I have had a shap, almost burning pain in my right nipple for more than a week. It hppens a couple times a day, usually whn I'm laying down. Each time it lasts maybe five seconds...but it's an intense five seconds. I've been "experimenting" and think it is linked to movement of my right arm...could this be a pinched nerve? There's no discharge, discoloration, or anything. It's only my right nipple. It wakes me up in the night when I roll over (doesn't matter which side I lay on). My nipples aren't pierced and I have never breastfed. My breasts are real. It's truly ONLY my nipple in pin, not the breast. Help!

Hi Anon,

Welcome to EmpowHER.  Nipple pain can also be caused by specific disorders, particularly inflammatory disorders.  Infection and inflammation of the ducts of the breast and breast abscess and a trauma to the breast  can result in nipple pain.  It's important to see your doctor, if the pain doesn't go away.

Best,

Daisy
