ask: Can an opened root canal tooth cause deafness and blindness?

My crown came off over a year ago. Despite trying to keep it clean, it is smelling foul. Now I notice changes in the right side of my face... dullness in my right ear, a glazed appearance to my right eye especially, facial soreness of my right temple, forehead and back of head. Are these related to that tooth?

Rosa Cabrera RN Guide

Hi Sharopa Herbit,

While an abscessed root canal may not cause deafness or blindness--it needs to be treated as soon as possible. A tooth that is foul smelling means that it is infected... the change that you may have noticed in the right side of your face could be the beginning of swelling in your face and yes, the other changes could be related to the tooth. A complication of an abscessed tooth can be sepsis which can lead to death. I don't want to scare you but you need to see a dentist as soon as possible.

Best Wishes,

Rosa
