Q:

Can you miss two pills, have your period, and still get pregnant?

I missed two pills, so on the third day I took all three. My period then started a few days earlier than normal. This resulted in a 4 day lapse between the end of my period and the start of my next month of pills. I had sex with my boyfriend in that time - is there a possibility I could get pregnant? I have had nausea for two days now but with no vomiting, and random heart burn. Any ideas?

Hi, Anon, and welcome to EmpowHer. Thank you for your question!

The fact that you had a period means that you were fine during the time that you missed two pills. So that's good.

But yes, if you have unprotected sex between your period and the time you start your new pills, pregnancy is a possibility. A slight one, but a possibility. (Even if you take birth control perfectly, though, pregnancy is a possibility; most birth control pills have between 97% and 99% success rate, but that still means that a few women get pregnant every year who have used it.) Also, many women who want to get pregnant need a few months off the pill before their bodies are regularly ovulating again, so it is probable that you are just fine.

Usually, the earliest pregnancy symptoms don't start until around the time you would be late for your period. From the way you write, it sounds like that's still quite a ways off, right?
