Hi ,i had intercourse during my ovulation phase. i then took postinor2 13hrs later. can i still get pregnant? And if conception had already taken place, can it be terminated by postinor?

Postinor 2 like most other morning after pills are time sensitive, that is the earlier u take them after unprotected sex the more effective they are , generally thou taking the full dose (usually 2 tab) within 72 hrs after unprotected sex is criteria as outside that the pill the failure rate is even larger. therefore if u had taken both pills in 13hrs after sex you should be ok.
To answer your other question once conception, that is the sperm as fertilize the egg, the pill will be unable to stop pregnancy, this is why the pills are not seen as causing abortion as they prevent or delay egg from being release from the ovary and so prevent conception to in the first place.
hope this was helpful

Hello Anonymous,

Postinor 2 prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation. It will not terminate a pregnancy.

If you had not yet ovulated, it would have been effective. Otherwise, it may not.

If you do not have any bleeding within three weeks of taking the pill, then test for pregnancy.

Maryann

Good day Maryan. The very last time I had unprotected genital contact was on December 2016 a day after my period ended. (I have 28 days cycle) Mind that there was no penetration and ejaculation inside. Took postinor2 less than 24 hours as directed. Got withdrawal bleeding, January period and February period on time. I'm waiting for March period this 23/3. 5 negative pregnancy test and last week took another one and still negative. Also got an ultrasound 3 days ago at gynaecologist office and the doctor said my uterus is empty and seems perfectly normal. Do you think I'm certainly not pregnant? Do I still need to do another ultrasound in few weeks later? Thank you

Hello Anonymous,

It is safe to say that you are not pregnant and there is no need to repeat the ultrasound.

Hello jhane,

Postinor 2 prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation. Its effect lasts for one menstrual cycle.

It, and all emergency contraceptives are intended to be used in emergency situations. They are NOT to be used as regular birth control.

Over use will decrease its effectiveness and end up costing you more money than using condoms or birth control pills.

Regards,
Maryann
