i was just prescribed clobetasol for vaginal itching and i hope it works. I have taken so many antibiotics the last 7 months for various illneses, it has upset the balance of the vaginal flora. So now i have buning and itching and my gyn said i have BV. So i guess she is going to treat that with flagyll. I can't stand all this stuff going on with my private parts. It drives me mad, and when people ask how i'm doing, because they know i have been sick, i can't say "my vagina burns and itches,!" I mean what do you say to people?? My husband has been so understanding through all my health issues the past 7 months, but i think he might be starting to wonder if i'm making all this vaginal stuff up. I just want to be back to "normal".

Thank you for sharing your story, and I hope this new medication helps. It is difficult for others to understand, and it is so taboo that we can't really share how we are *really* feeling with others, unfortunately! I'm glad you found EmpowHER...you can share with us anytime.
Hope to hear back from you again!

What's the best treatement for vulvar lychen sclerosis?
September 2, 2018 - 8:17amThis Comment
Hello, Anon.
Lichen sclerosus is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that most commonly affects the vulva, groin, and perianal region. Most cases of lichen sclerosus occur in women who have been through menopause, but men and children can also sometimes be affected.
The most common treatment for lichen sclerosus is applying a steroid cream or ointment directly to the affected area. Steroids can be very effective in controlling inflammation, which helps to reduce itching, soreness, and scarring, and can prevent the condition from getting worse. Sometimes, a doctor may recommend surgery. For example, scar tissue can sometimes make the entrance to the vagina narrow, and, as a result, sex becomes difficult. Surgery will widen the opening to the vagina, reducing discomfort.

I was prescribed too by a nurse practitioner in early January and I used it for a while then stop. I was also sick at that time taking antibiotics for an ear infection and I've never felt so miserable in my entire life. I found out that the antibiotic counteract with the yeast infection and i was itching like hell! So I used this with monistat but the itch and discomfort didn't help. I'm premenopausal 41 years old and had a hysterectomy in 2008, my ovaries remained. Based on my research, I might be suffering vaginal dryness due to my premenopausal. I'm not sure how everyone else feels but somehow my body goes thru this everymonth coinciding with my "regular" period supposedly and there's nothing I can do because it's hormonal. So that means I have to suffer one week a month with vaginal itch so bad that I can't go to sleep ( I have to take sleeping pills just so my body can rest) and go to work. I feel like I'm a prisoner of my vagina! Am i making sense to anyone or is it just me. I finally went to a female ob-gyn on February, she took some culture test, and at that time is my "monthly" itch and she said its hormonal and unfortunately we can't do anything about. I might have given her the dagger look and so she scheduled me for March. I'm going Monday and I'm going to tell her that I'm on my "monthly" itch again and lost work for three days and haven't slept for two. HELP!

oh, I was told my condition was likely a skin disorder called Lichen Sclerosis. It's typically only found in older, menopausal women.
Glad to know I'm not the only younger person to have this issue.

Yes, I too have been told I have Lichen Sclerosis. I have been using this ointment for 9 months on advice of my Specialist. I use it 2 to 3 times a week and it helps. I was told Lichen Sclerosis can be controlled but not cured. I have to go for checkup every 6 months as Specialist says it can turn to cancer if not watched.

I was also prescribed Clobetasol for extreme vaginal itching and thinning tissue. I have had these problems since I was 25, I am now 27. I suffered for 2 years+ before getting treatment. The ointment helped, but has not completely cured my issues. And now I am TTC, so I cannot use it at all. Before researching tonight whether it was safe for me to use or not, I didn't know it should not be used long term. I used it on and off for almost 6 months. I initially used it when I was prescribed the meds, then would use it again for flare ups, typically after my period was the worst.
I'm glad to hear others have had relief from this med, but now I have to find out something I can use long term as my issues seem to persist.

My Gyno prescribed this for me today. I've got some sort of mystery condition that's causing vaginal discomfort and he said that this could be used for it. It says it shouldnt be used for that on that website, but Doctors go to school for years and I'm hoping he's onto something. I'm hoping this works for me because this is sort of my last hope for ever enjoying intercourse again :(
