Hi, My period is 10 days late, I had unprotected sex on the 21st February and my period was due on the 28th. I've taken two home clearblue pregnancy tests and a nurse did a test for me. All came back negative. I have no symptoms, except heartburn which I never get. My period is also never this late. Could 3 negative tests be wrong?

I'm also going thru something similar. I'm 20 years old and my period always comes every 28 to 30 days. As of yesterday I am 2 months late. I know missed periods can be caused by a number of things but I haven't really had any unusual stress or anything like that. My boyfriend and I have been having unprotected sex (I know, tsk tsk) and some symptoms I've been having are occasional nausea, heartburn, constipation, discharge and I'm breaking out which is unusual for me. I've also been unusally hungry. I took one pregnancy test about a week and a half ago and it was negative. I haven't gone to the doctors yet because I'm afraid of telling my dad about my missed periods. Could I possibly be pregnant? I've been reading stories and this doesn't seem so uncommon.

Hello j.eckert421,

Is there a reason why your father needs to know if you visit your doctor? Is insurance or payment the issue?

All your symptoms, no period for two months and being sexually active without protection are all good reasons to be examined by your doctor.

Lol now that I'm thinking more about it... I've been having headaches, I get sweaty all of a sudden, slight cramping (which may be from the constipation) I even had dreams before I suspected. I've been also getting really tired.

Hello Claire91,

A blood pregnancy test, which is more accurate than a urine test, would be one way of determining whether or not you are pregnant. During pregnancy, the cells which form the placenta produce a hormone hCG. Levels are detected in blood about 11 days following conception and in urine about 12 to 14 days after conception.

Excessive cortisol levels can also cause a late period. When you are under a lot of stress, your body produces higher levels of cortisol, a "stress" hormone.

Excessive exercising, weight gain or weight loss, illness and eating disorders can cause irregular menstrual cycles and a missed period.

Since you have had unprotected sex, if you do not get your period this month, you may want to schedule an appointment with your doctor.
