how do I know when pityriasis rosea is healing?

I was diagnosed with pityriasis rosea almost 6 weeks ago. Apparently it takes 6-8 weeks to disappear, but I keep finding new spots every time I shower, new red spots seem to pop up. The first ones I got seem to keep changing. Does anyone know what these spots are meant to look like before they just disappear?

I have been diagnosed with PT but I was wondering if it was really it. Does it begin with red bumps that turn into red flaky patches?

I am entering my third week of PR right now. It started with a mother patch on my chest then spread to my stomach, back, neck, forehead, and even my scalp. Over the past week I've noticed spots behind my thighs and all down my arms. I went to see a dermatologist about 5 days ago and he prescribed me prednisone. He said it was rare for PR to be so inflamed (he seemed fascinated). My skin felt like it was burning and it was bright red. The night before I went to see the derm, my skin was already starting to dry up just a bit but it was still so painful, bumpy, and burning. After taking the prednisone for 4 days now, the bumps have gone flat and I am really flaky just like a really bad sunburn. I'm starting to see my skin again and my mother path is gone. I still have spots that haven't gotten to the drying stage yet but I assume it's because they're newer. Does anyone know how long the flaky-ness will last? My skin feels really really dry - is there anything (safe) that I put on it? and why do I still itch so much?

For everyone whose PR cleared up already, do you still have some faint leftover circular marks? I got PR last August and was still getting some lesions in March. I haven't seen any new lesions lately, but I can still see faint circles on my skin, especially my back.

I'm in week 2 of my PR and it is progressively getting worse. I have it all over my back, my chest, stomach, my groin, neck, forehead, and even in my scalp. It seems to be spreading down my arms and my butt cheeks now. What's strange is my skin feels extremely hot and my mother patch is flat and looks lighter than it did 2 weeks ago. My skin is extremely flaky and sticky. Does this mean I am healing? I've been using head and shoulders clinical strength and Aveeno lotion. Doesn't seem like anything it is helping . I've been feeling extremely tired and nauseous as well. I'm scared of trying to tanning bed in case it makes it worse. How many minutes should I start with? Is there anything else I can do to speed this up?

Totally tan or sun bathe, tanning was more convenient for me and it started to work right away. I only do 6-8 mins sessions. Best of luck my case was severe I feel your pain.

My case was just like yours. I first saw signs July 5 and it has completely cleared up all of my red spots and rashes as of a week ago. I did not do the tanning bed but I sun bathed by the pool for a hour or so. Tricky part is not to get sweaty as it agitates and spreads it. So once I felt myself getting too hot I would take a dip in the pool and then let the sun dry me off. That along with aveeno oatmeal soothing bath. Worked wonders and it began to clear up instantly!!!! Worth a try.... Hope it helps!

I was so upset when I got diagnosed and I have a severe case of ps. It made its way up my neck and some on my face. It's the middle of the summer here and I have a little one who I do so many activates with so I was completely devastated and very embarrassed. Well I tried everything I read on here and tanning is what did it for me! Thank you thank you thank you! I know the risk of tanning but I'm not one to tan at all so I went everyday for 6-8 mins sessions and it was gone by the fifth day!!! Good luck to you all and thank you again!

My 14 year old son just got diagnosed with PR and I am freaking. I have been reading all of the comments and am going to try the dandruff shampoo, coconut oil, and sambucol. He is still in the spreading stage I think. It seems that the tanning bed is what seems to help people get rid of this. Is it too soon for him to try it? If its still spreading? We want to jump on this and treat if aggressively. Help!

im 16, mine cleared up in 4 weeks. Use 'Calamine Lotion' It drys the spots out and helps them heal MUCH faster. Also, vitamin C and Zinc, Head and shoulders twice a day and coconut oil helps also. Try sterioid cream too and E45 itch relief cream and dont get to hot or it spreads.
